Abstract

Chain length distribution is an important factor affecting the polymer product properties. A
Monte Carlo method was applied to predict the chain length distribution in the step growth
polymerization product under isothermal condition. The results for small time of polymerization
were compared to the results of kinetics modeling. It was observed that Monte Carlo method
could quantitatively well predict the chain length distribution. The Monte Carlo method was then
applied to predict the chain length distribution for large times. It is observed that the Monte Carlo
method was relatively easy to be applied until relatively high degree of polymerization
